Royal Greenwich Scouts take on Thames Path Challenge Despite Sweltering Heat

Date: 11th May 2024 Author: Joseph Shippam

On Saturday 10th May over 100 district members embarked on the Thames Path challenge, braving the scorching heat of the year’s hottest day. They took part in Trail Jam, an international day of scouts around the world taking part in hikes.

The day kicked off with John, the organiser, setting an ambitious set of goals: Beavers were tasked with walking a mile, Cubs with three, and Scouts and Explorers with six.

However, participants far exceeded these expectations, with Beavers and Cubs covering six miles and Scouts and Explorers going as far as 12 or 14 miles, and the core team completing the full 20-mile route.

As Mental Health Awareness Week focuses on Movement, it seems very fitting given that TrailJam falls at the start!

Looking forward, plans for next year’s event on May 10th, 2025, are already in motion, promising another day of walking in Royal Greenwich!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
