Eleven acres Scout Camp is the District campsite of Royal Greenwich District Scouts and just outside Downe Village in Kent.
The site is around 30mins from the District and has the advantage of being a local Scout Camp with national activities. This is because it is situated 5 mins walking from The Scout Association’s National Activity Centre.
There’s lots of local attractions including Downe House.

Facilities
The Building
Our Brownsea Hut currently offers a main hall and basic kitchen facilities
WC Facilities
At the far end of the camping field we have male and female toilet, washing and shower facilities.
Responsibilities of Hirer
In order to ensure a safe environment for all site users the Site Management Committee has set the basic rules for the benefit of all. It is the permit holders and group leader’s responsibility to ensure that all campers, helpers, drivers etc. are aware of these rules.
The site policy is park and walk. Vehicles delivering equipment and campers are to park in the car park and the campers should carry their personal equipment and camping equipment to their site. Leaders should ensure that there is someone at the car park to direct their campers to the correct camping areas. Vehicles are not allowed to drive on or park on the camping field or access areas, only in the designated car park.
Buildings, Camping, Activities
All camping and activities should be to a standard equivalent to Scout Rules as in Policy Organisation & Rules.
Refuse and Sanitation
Users are asked to leave the building and toilets as they would hope to find them. The building should be left clean. If the building is not left in a good condition you may be required to pay additional cleaning costs required to clean the facilities for the next user. This will be taken from the cleaning deposit Please report any breakage or damage at the earliest possible opportunity to allow for prompt replacement or repair.
All refuse/waste must be taken away from the site with you as we do not have a refuse collection. If this is not done a charge will be taken from deposit There is a policy of no dogs on site or with in buildings at any of our Centre’s (Except registered Assistance Dogs).
Toilets and Showers
The toilets must be kept clean and tidy. We strive to keep the toilets and showers in good condition, however, if you find during the course of your stay this is not so, or discover toilets blocked or lack of toilet paper etc. then please contact a member of our team so that we can take remedial action. Please do not use the shower areas to clean off your muddy boots.
Noise
As we are in a residential area, we ask that noise is kept to a minimum especially during the hours of darkness. The site operates a strict code of practice. ALL live/pre-recorded music has a curfew of 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 12 midnight on Friday and Saturday. All generators are to be switched off no later than 11pm and not started before 7am.
Accidents
All accidents should be reported in your own accident book and must be reported to the site warden. Any accident occurring on site that requires hospital treatment must be report to your District Commissioner.
Insurance
The Scout Association Insurance ONLY covers members of the Scout Association whilst at a SCOUTING ORGANISED ACTIVITY. If you are a non-Scout Association organisation YOU ARE NOT COVERED BY US and must arrange your own insurance cover for everything involved during your stay at the site.
Licenses
If any event requires a license, such as the sale of intoxicating liquor, or possible entertainment, it is the responsibility of the hirer to obtain this and must be shown to the wardens prior to the event. A television license is not held on site for the use of TVs.
Knives, Axes and Saws
All campers are reminded of the Scout Association code of conduct regarding their use.
Fires and Woodpiles
All fallen timber may be used for fires. No trees or branches from trees are to be felled or cut. No pits are to be dug anywhere on the camping field.
Risk Assessments
We have our own risk assessments for the site and buildings but all visitors are requested to undertake their own risk assessment for their stay on site.
Departure Times
Visitors are requested to vacate the buildings by 12 midday Monday to Friday and 5pm at weekends. Please be aware that in the peak season this rule also applies to the camping sites.
