Meet Royal Greenwich Scout, Tayden, a Hospice Mini Marathon star

Date: 20th May 2024 Author: Joseph Shippam

Tayden Matthews, a dedicated scout from the 1st Royal Greenwich, participated in his sixth Hospice Mini Marathon last weekend. This year, Tayden ran the familiar course around Greenwich Park dressed as Pinocchio.May be an image of 8 people, skateboard and text that says 'Bayanix HOSPICEA4 MINIMARATI'

Tayden, who has made this event an annual tradition, runs in memory of his beloved grandad, Terrence. Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice supported Terrence to pass away peacefully at home when Tayden was just four years old. Tayden fondly recalls his grandad as being “really fun” and cherishes the memories they shared.

Reflecting on his motivation, Tayden said, “I think that first of all, running the Hospice Mini Marathon was about Grandad, but then I think about all the other people who need support from the hospice and all the people that use the hospice.”

This year, Tayden managed to raise over £385, bringing his total fundraising amount over the past six years to more than £2,500 for the Bexley & Greenwich Community Hospice.

We wonder what costume he’ll be in next year and if any other Royal Greenwich Scouts will be joining him?
